Maintain and repair as needed any AM General Plant pipelines and pipe systems including boiler systems, paint systems, fire suppression systems, residential type plumbing systems, irrigation and wash lines.


  • Start-up and shutdown of plumbing and paint systems; plumbing and piping repairs and installation.
  • Repair and maintenance of fluid hoses; replacing filters (excluding work done by other trades, indirect groups, and production.
  • Maintenance of all piping systems and valves (compressed air, natural gas, domestic water, wastewater, process fluids, steam, etc.).
  • Maintenance of the boilers, steam, and condensate systems; maintaining fire sprinkler systems (excluding installation and testing performed by a licensed fire protection contractor).
  • Repair and maintenance of residential-type plumbing (toilets, sinks, cleaning drains, etc.); cleaning nozzles and piping in the wash lines.
  • Maintaining the RO systems, carbon filters, and water softeners; making coolant mixture for production; checking and recording the level of certain fluids in underground and aboveground storage tanks.
  • Maintenance and repair of icemakers.
  • Maintenance and repair of lawn sprinklers.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks that have been routinely performed by pipefitters in the past.


  • Hold a current union journeyperson pipefitter card, or provide documentation of a completed apprenticeship program meeting AM General standards, or provide evidence in the form of notarized affidavits of at least eight years of practical experience in the trade
  • Experience with industrial piping and fluid distribution (gas, air, water, steam, paint, chemicals, wastewater, fuels)
  • Experience with domestic water and sanitary/industrial sewer systems
  • Experience with boilers, steam distribution, and condensate systems
  • Experience with fire sprinkler systems
  • Ability to operate a lift truck and various types of mobile elevating working platforms (boom lift, scissor lift, etc.)
  • Always attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Ability to learn basic computer skills to communicate via email, document daily work and progress, and track procurements and status
  • Knowledge of codes


  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear in an industrial environment
  • Frequent climbing, walking, kneeling, and standing in indoor and outdoor industrial environments.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.


Physical Location:  This position operates in a manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift. 

Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace.

Listening Skills:  This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately.

Ability to follow instructions:  Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary depending on the products being manufactured; this position should be able to follow instructions competently.

Methodical approach:  Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line.

Concentration – This position will perform the same tasks repeatedly, so a good level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast-paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is beneficial

Physical stamina – This position may stand for long periods of time, sometimes entire shifts, and lift packages or materials.
