This position provides environmental, health, safety, leadership at AM General’s Indiana location to includes its Mishawaka Manufacturing Campus, Aftermarket Fulfillment and Training Center and Corporate headquarters. The individual is accountable for providing leadership for EHS activities to the sites including hands-on participation; evaluating and clarifying EHS objectives and targets with Site Leadership; internal reporting of EHS performance; communication of national, regional and local regulatory requirements. The position is directly responsible for EH&S compliance & improvements by assuring accurate and complete EHS reporting of metrics; assuring closure of related action Items on a timely basis; completion of required EHS training for personnel; supporting Site Leadership teams during crises; creating a strong EHS culture that engages all employees.


  • Set minimum physical and operational standards for hazardous operations.
  • Establish management of change requirements for evaluating all changes for their impact on HSE, including changes in the HSE control structure. Audit the HSE control structure for unplanned changes and migration toward states of higher risk.
  • Create and or maintain an easy-to-use problem reporting system and then monitor for as needed changes.
  • Leading and coordinating all environmental, safety and health related activities for the site to prevent occupational injury/illness related losses, environmental exposure through spills and minimize future liabilities by evaluating risks and establishing appropriate loss control/reduction activities.
  • Establish, coach, and facilitate working groups and work with the global EHS Council in aligning policies and processes.
  • Responsible for providing a clear definition of expectations, responsibilities, training, authority, and accountability at all levels of the HSE control structure.
  • Lead activities to implement change in design of machinery, equipment, and work methods to drive ergonomic improvements.
  • Establish incident and accident investigation standards.  Conduct internal environmental and safety audits at sites to ensure compliance (i.s. OSHA, EPA, etc.…) with local government standards.
  • Establish HSE education and training for all employees along with processes for continual improvement. 
  • Align corporate, regional, and local HSE goals, targets, objectives, and strategies for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors and assess any risks.
  • Develop and help implement waste minimization and recycling programs.
  • Execute, support, and advise management regarding any environmental policies and safety procedures, violations, problems, or new regulations affecting the Company.
  • Monitor, measure, and complete trend analysis on key EHS metrics.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety or a related, relevant field is preferred.
  • 7 of more years of job-related experience in industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ergonomic risk factor assessments and industry tools.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other US regulations and the fundamentals of safety and industrial hygiene.
  • Prior experience with Title V requirements for a large manufacturer.
  • Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to plan and prioritize own work, completes work on schedule and maintains required records.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral, to all levels of the organization (internal, customers and suppliers). Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to read and apply applicable regulatory requirements, such as OSHA, NCDENR, ANSI and NFPA Standards.
  • Understanding of basic LEAN manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in a leadership role; guiding and directing a team like a safety committee towards a common goal.
  • Demonstrated skills in the operation of various computer programs including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to problem solve and good understanding of continuous improvement methodologies
  • Class C or D wastewater License or willingness to obtain such license within 1 year of employment.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification.


  • Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity so as to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner. This includes regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate.  
  • Hand-Eye Coordination: must be able to regularly coordinate one’s eyes with one’s fingers, wrists, or arms to move, carry, or manipulate objects or to perform other job-related tasks. 
  • Manual Dexterity: must be able to regularly make quick, accurate, skillful, and coordinated movement with hands and arms to grasp, place, move, or use objects such as phone, computer, and other office equipment, tools, or controls.  
  •  Agility: must be able to regularly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, or legs to perform job tasks. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, Company’s property surrounding facility, or additional work areas.   
  • Climbing / Kneeling: must be able to occasionally climb, kneel, bend over, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, with balance. 
  • Lifting: must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds with or without assistance. 
  • Physical Strength: must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups. 
  • Stamina: must be able to occasionally exert oneself physically over long periods of time. This may include performing repetitive or strenuous tasks as well as standing and sitting for long periods.


  • Physical Location:  This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. Employee must be able to perform job functions in environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises.   
  • Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace.
  • Listening Skills:  This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately.
  • Ability to follow instructions:  Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary depending on the products being manufactured; this position should be able to follow instructions competently.
  • Methodical approach:  Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line.
  • Concentration:  This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important.


Travel to and from our various company locations is required plus additional as necessary.
